English Wine Week is back from 21st to 29th June, and we’re raising a glass (or a few!) to one of our favourite homegrown bottles, the Henners Brut NV.
It’s a sparkling wine that can more than hold its own against its French cousins in Champagne, and if you’ve never tried it before, this is the week to change that.
Try English Sparkling Wine By the Glass
We’ll be offering a glass of Henners Brut NV for £8.95, all week long. Usually only available by the bottle, it’s your chance to try a genuinely great glass of English fizz that’s well worth toasting.
If you’ve not heard of Henners before, you’re in good hands. Our wine merchants, Hattersley Wines, based locally in Bakewell, brought Henners to us as a ‘one to watch’ last year.
Henners – One to Watch
As wine expert John Hattersley puts it, “Henners brut fizz is fabulous. It’s not ostentatious like Champagne. It’s not set above its station and is for everyone to drink. For us, it’s definitely the wine of the moment. It’s easy drinking, it’s fuss-free and if it were to be a person, I’d describe it as that confident, reliable friend who is always a laugh.”
A Contender Against Champagne
Made using the traditional Champagne method and grown in the gentle coastal climate of East Sussex, Henners offers all the sparkle without the snobbery. It’s a wine that’s proudly English and increasingly popular, as John notes:
“On the whole, English wine is rising in popularity. The Henners sparkling wine, in particular, really is a contender against Champagne.”
And if you’re still loyal to your usual French fizz, John has this to say:
“Obviously, Champagne is the stalwart and has been around for centuries with bottles being produced in the millions. English sparkling wines to rival Champagne are so young and new in comparison. But if it’s comparison you’re after and you’re looking for a light, crisp, clean and zippy sparkling white, give Henners a try.”
Whether you’re already a convert to English wine or just curious to see what all the fuss is about, this is your invitation to join us, raise a glass, and celebrate the best of British bubbles.
Cheers to English Wine Week!
