Steeped in history and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Peak District, The Peacock at Rowsley has offered a refined retreat for centuries. Every detail tells a story, from its Jacobean architecture to the beautifully curated interiors, blending history with modern luxury.

A luxury hotel
with a story to tell

The Peacock at Rowsley has stood at the heart of Derbyshire life since the 17th century.

Built in 1652 as a manor house for John Stevenson, steward to Haddon Hall, the property later became a dower house for the Manners family, before becoming a hotel in 1832.

From 2003, it was part of the Haddon Estate and under the ownership of Lord and Lady Manners. A chapter that helped shape the quiet character and deep-rooted charm that define our luxury hotel near Bakewell today.

Now a II-star listed property, The Peacock at Rowsley has long been part of the fabric of the Peak District, a place shaped by heritage, and known for its character, setting and timeless charm.

The Peacock at
Rowsley today

In 2025, The Peacock at Rowsley entered a new chapter under the custodianship of Longbow Venues, an independent hospitality group with a strong focus on heritage, character, and considered renewal. Their vision is to protect the hotel’s history, while continuing to enrich the guest experience in thoughtful, lasting ways.

Under the guidance of Longbow Venues, our luxury hotel in the Peak District continues to evolve. Our 15 beautifully curated rooms combine historic character with modern comfort, offering a refined retreat within the Peak District and its natural beauty.
