Peak District walks

We have selected a handful of our favourite circular walking routes that begin and end within steps of The Peacock at Rowsley. These are proper Derbyshire countryside walks – mostly off-road, easy to follow, and chosen for their scenery and peaceful surroundings.

Each one offers a different glimpse into the Derbyshire landscape, whether you’re after a short stroll or a longer adventure.

Stanton Moor

A circular route across Stanton Moor, taking in sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, this walk is perfect for a mid-morning or afternoon adventure. Along the way, you’ll pass fascinating Bronze Age monuments, including the Nine Ladies stone circle and other ancient relics, all with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. A gentle yet rewarding walk on well-marked trails.

Manners Wood

A peaceful woodland walk through Manner’s Wood, following quiet tracks beneath a canopy of trees. This route is perfect for spotting local wildlife, discovering hidden clearings, and enjoying the tranquillity of a lesser-trodden part of the Peak District.

Haddon Hall circular

This is a picturesque off-road route, entirely on the Haddon Estate. It takes you from our front door to Haddon Hall and back – taking you to the top of Coombs Valley, past Bowling Green Farm, down to the River Wye and on to Haddon Hall.

Guests of The Peacock at Rowsley enjoy a discount on admission tickets to the Hall. After your visit, return through the gates, turn right and dip back down the footpath via the river, past Elliottholme Lodge, then up Coombs Valley and back to The Peacock at Rowsley.

Lathkill Dale from Monyash to Rowsley

A longer and more adventurous route through the beautiful Lathkill Dale.

This route follows the entire course of the River Lathkill, and back to The Peacock at Rowsley. At 13km, this circular route is more of an expedition, but every step is worth it! Expect to pass dramatic dales, flower-filled meadows, ancient caves, and the remains of lead mines, then continue through the picturesque Alport and Stanton in Peak before looping back.

The journey doesn’t end with walking. From peaceful hours spent fly fishing on the River Wye, to a day uncovering the Peak District’s hidden treasures, there’s always more to experience beyond our front door. However you choose to explore, The Peacock at Rowsley is your place to return, reflect, relax and indulge.
