The Peacock at Rowsley has been famous for its fishing for many years, with 7 miles of exclusive fishing access of fly fishing on the Wye, Derwent, Lower and Middle Lathkill, and Bradford rivers. We were reminded of this history today when a guest shared this image with us.
This is W.D Richman. Mr Richman would visit The Peacock every year for its wonderful fishing and sixty years ago he caught a record breaking sized trout on the Derbyshire Wye. Later he had the trout stuffed and presented it to the hotel where it is still displayed to this day in reception.
Speaking of her father, Paula Fletcher said, “He was a great river fisherman, tied his own flies and used beautiful split cane rods. Only in later years, when the family moved from Birmingham to Torquay, did he take up sea fishing, but he was happiest fishing for Bass on the River Dart”.
Our thanks to Paula for sharing this story.
The Peacock maintains a vibrant fishing club for experienced fishers and beginners alike, and with the trout season in full swing (April to October) we look forward to welcoming many more fishing guests.
