Covid 19 precautions at The Peacock

We are delighted to be welcoming guests back to The Peacock this summer and are so looking forward to opening our doors again. 

We will do all we can to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, whether you are coming to stay or dine with us, whilst keeping you and our team safe. 

We are closely studying government guidelines and will make sure we follow these to the letter. These are the measures we are putting in place which we hope will give you confidence to enjoy your time with us. As circumstances and guidance change, we will adjust these measures accordingly. 

You will see us regularly and frequently cleaning our public spaces; our team will be trained and regularly health checked; hand sanitisers masks and gloves will be made available for our guests, and we will enable plenty of space throughout the hotel for social distancing.

In turn, we respectfully ask our guests to use common sense with regards to hygiene and to respect each other's space particularly when moving about the hotel.  

Making a reservation

We are taking bookings for the hotel and restaurant from Wednesday 22 July. Please book in the usual way either on our website or by telephone on 01629 733518. 

At this stage we can only take restaurant reservations for a maximum of two households per booking as per current government guidelines. 

We will be as flexible as possible if for any reason you have to cancel your reservation. 

If you feel ill or have a temperature please don’t come - we will look forward to seeing you another time. 

We can only accept diners that have pre-booked so please make sure you call us to make a reservation - we will do our best to accommodate you if there is space, even at short notice.

We may be required to take contact details of all diners. 

Check in

Bedrooms as a rule will not be available until 4pm to allow us enough time to prepare your room carefully for your stay. We ask you to please not arrive during lunch service, but if you would like to have lunch before you check in please call in advance to make a reservation and leave your luggage in your car until your room is available. 

Room keys will be cleaned and sanitized prior to your arrival.

Please use contactless payment - Apple and Google pay works very well.  


We are incredibly proud of our housekeeping team who consistently score top marks for cleanliness in our regular hotel inspections. They are preparing a meticulous cleaning and sanitising regime for bedrooms and bathrooms making sure everything in your room will be safe for you to use.

Hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes will also be provided in your room for your convenience and peace of mind.

We will be removing certain amenities such as magazines, books and throws.  

We regret that for the time being we will not be able to offer a turndown service. 


Breakfast can either be taken in your room or in the restaurant. If you choose to have breakfast downstairs there will be no breakfast bar, but a full range of delicious options will be available to order from your table.

Lunch and dinner service

The Peacock has plenty of dining space with three dining rooms, the bar and outside on our terrace, so we will be able to offer a full lunch and dinner service.  We will be removing some tables to make plenty of space for comfortable social distancing. Tables and chairs will be cleaned and disinfected between each service.

Our restaurant team will have been fully trained on Covid 19 safety and sanitizing procedures, will be equipped with suitable PPE, and will have their temperature checked before each shift. 

Toilets downstairs will be regularly cleaned throughout the day, but it would really help if hotel guests could use their own bathrooms during their stay.
